Five leaders from across Omaha – different backgrounds, different careers, one purpose – are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro this October. Every step help funds a new Lighthouse in North Omaha. A lighthouse is a home where people choose to live on purpose and love their neighbor. This is also Omaha's Year of the Neighbor, and this climb is taking that initiative to the top of Africa. Five leaders carrying a city's calling up a mountain, so the rest of Omaha asks the same question: how do I love my neighbor, right where I live?

Nash Mahupete
“I am a Zimbabwe native and former nursing student who now leads one of the nation’s leading rehabilitation centers. I climb because I know what hope can do for people in crisis.”
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Tinashe "Nash" Mahupete came to the United States as an international student in 2000. While pursuing his degree, he began his career at QLI as a Certified Nursing Assistant. For more than 26 years, Nash served in leadership roles across the organization before being named President and CEO.
Today, he leads QLI, a nationally recognized provider of brain and spinal cord injury rehabilitation. Beyond QLI, Nash serves as Board President of Abide and is engaged in civic and nonprofit leadership across Nebraska. He and his wife share two children, Dominic and Jada.
Jon Campbell
" I am a third-generation real estate owner who chose to live along the people I serve. I climb because loving my neighbor is not just another program – it's a way of life."
Real estate has been in Jon Campbell's family for three generations. Jon earned dual degrees in Real Estate & Land Use Economics and Small Business Management, followed by his MBA, all at UNO. As the owner of Thrive Street Living, Jon manages a diverse portfolio of multi-family, industrial and retail assets across the Omaha Metro.
He and his family lived in North Omaha for 14 years as a deliberate choice rooted in the belief that loving his neighbor is a way of living life on purpose. Jon and his wife are proud parents of three sons.
Josh Dotzler
"I am a former Division 1 point guard now pointing people to purpose. I climb so that every person has every opportunity to reach their full God-given potential."
Josh Dotzler is the CEO of Abide and has a passion to build bridges and break barriers so every person can reach their God-given potential. Josh has authored four books and is a keynote speaker on the subject of purpose. He and his team believe that when everyone lives on purpose, the gap between poverty and potential decreases.
As a former D-1 athlete, Josh uses his skills from the basketball court as a point guard to point people and communities toward their purpose and potential. Josh is married to his wife of 19 years, Jennifer, and the couple has four children: Joshua, Joseph, Julianna and Jada.
Sheeva Parbhu
"I believe every person is created with purpose and has the capacity to flourish. Hope grows when someone chooses to walk beside another through life's mountains. I climb because every person deserves someone who believes in them until they can believe in themselves."
Dr. Sheeva Parbhu is a first-generation son of immigrant parents, who was raised in Omaha and works as a physician dedicated to restoring health and hope. After earning his undergraduate degree at the University of Notre Dame and his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, he returned to serve the community that shaped him.
As a board-certified gastroenterologist and physician leader at Midwest Gastrointestinal Associates, Dr. Parbhu is passionate about delivering excellent care while helping preserve independent, patient-centered medicine. Beyond the clinic, he believes true healing extends beyond procedures and prescriptions. It happens when people are seen, valued and empowered to discover their purpose.
His commitment to Abide alongside his wife, Dr. Rachel Parbhu, reflects that conviction. Through investing in neighborhoods, building relationships, and creating opportunities for others to grow and thrive, he seeks to help transform not only individual lives but also the community we share. Guided by his faith, Dr. Parbhu strives to lead with humility, serve with compassion, and inspire hope wherever he is called.
Alexi Wellman
"I am an entrepreneur at heart who grows solutions for the good of others. I climb because it’s another powerful way I can show love in action.”
Alexi Wellman has led at the highest levels of business – from Partner at KPMG to CEO of Altaba, with executive roles at Nebraska Book Company and Yahoo. She serves on multiple corporate and nonprofit boards, including Abide's Board of Directors. She's also an angel investor, a member of the investment committee of two VC funds, and an advisor to numerous startups.
Ask Alexi where she does her most meaningful work, though, and she might point you to the community pocket garden she helped create in North Omaha. Now carrying forward the legacy she and her husband, Scott, built together, Alexi believes lasting change happens through purposeful, consistent, hands-on presence by showing love in action.
Lighthouse program
A Lighthouse is a home in a North Omaha neighborhood, bought and renovated, where a trusted leader or family can live, serve, and build lasting relationships in the community.
Abide places Lighthouses in targeted North Omaha neighborhoods, and where there's a Lighthouse, crime and violence drop by 75%.

This climb is one expression of a bigger idea, and of Omaha’s Year of the Neighbor: that all of us are made for a purpose, and that purpose is best lived out in loving our neighbor — right where we are.
